He's absolutely simplified the fuck out of everything so as to make it more likely than not when it isn't.
For starters he only said he left his SYSTEM home. But if he had his games he was appearing at a competition where people probably have multiple fucking systems. Much simpler to assume that's what happened.
Furthermore even someone like me who has a touch of balltism has many of their competitive Pokémon in Poké Balls. This is a result of breeding down family lines from the past when Poké Balls were the only thing they appeared in and being too lazy to fix it now that it's possible because in most cases I don't care that much.
As for ones from there specifically, I caught one of my fucking Fini's in a goddamn Dive Ball. Was it annoying and stupid thanks to it being able to heal? Yes, but that doesn't mean if you care you won't do it. I had the time and felt like doing it so I did. Same for Lele in a Heal Ball and Lele in a Love Ball and Tapu Koko in an Ultra Ball and Koko in a Quick Ball. I didn't use any of them because they worked best I used them because it fit their color scheme of the Pokémon's theme.
