Dusknoir's best STAB move is Shadow Punch, a move with 60 Base Power. This means that even with the STAB boost, Dusknoir will be hitting harder with Earthquake, one of its common coverage moves.

It wouldn't even be that good if it had proper stab. 100 base attack is underwhelmning and it lacks the base hp and healing moes to make uses out of its defense stats. also its abilities are shit. poor guy

Ghost STABs as a whole are garbage tier.
Lunala is like the one Ghost-type with a decent STAB move.

Of course Ghost is an amazing offensive typing but when the best move is Shadow Ball or whatever meme moves the physical ghosts have to run, then what's the point...

It used to be 'perfectly fine' between Gen IV when it became Special and the end of last gen, but at this point in time ghosts just can keep up with the power creep as far as damage output is concerned except for maybe Aegislash and all the legendaries/mythicals with useful signature moves.

How would you fix Dusknoir? I would say just give him more HP and a STAB physical signature move, anything else is just extra.

Ghost overall as a type needs more attention. It could use another type to be SE against, and way more powerful attacks.
Shadow Punch should be at least 75BP nowadays.

I meant to put the other 5 points into attack. This isn't to fix anything but the pointless stats boost on Dusclops > Dusknoir evolution. Having extra speed and special attack was a dumb move and the points should've gone elsewhere.

Ghost is the second rarest type. With so few Ghosts to choose from, nothing has really challenged Gengar for being relevant or competitively important other than Mimikyu.

signature move thats a ghost type clone of drain punch
maybe not even signature, give it to golurk and banette as well

shadow punch should also be buffed to 80 bp but thats not really his primary problem

I would adore. A shame he cannot get the original. What do people normally DO with him? He can do the burn pain-split thing, and sounds like he could Assault Vest his way into driving certain Special attackers bonkers with super-effective moves, but 100 attack isn't that much anymore.

he can technically still do that, he just lacks two big things now: staying power and general damage options, so a drain punch equivalent would fill both of those niches in a single slot and allow him to run a lot of different utility options

he could still use moves like fake out itself or encore but for the most part hes pretty set outside of that big hole in his usefulness, things like taunt, wisp, db, disable, or even curse are great options he has already

Dusknoir still unironically uses Subpunch: Ghost & Fighting coverage is great, Dusknoir's subs are bulky enough to resist hits from lower tier walls, and last move is wisp because burn's cool.

The whole point of dusknoirs low hp stat was to show off pain split, so the easiest way to buff him is to give pain split +1 priority, and maybe a better ghost physical stab

Depends on the team, Dusknoir doesn't hit very hard but he at least uses moves so he's better on like bulky offense. Dusclops is better on hard stalls.

Neither is very good though.
