Sure, but Tyranitar has very high stats, automatic sand (which gives a free +1 to Sp. Def) and the widest movepool of literally any Rock type, with great physical, special and status moves.
Tyranitar is unpredictable. It might mega evolve, it might Dragon Dance or Curse, it might run Ice Beam or Fire Blast for coverage, it might phase with Roar or Dragon Tail, it could even be Specs. No other Rock type has that level of versatility.

So many Rock types do the exact same shit.
>Slow mixed bulk with little offense
Shuckle, Bastiodon, Carbink, Probopass, Corsola, Cradily
>Slow physical tank; weak special stats
Stakataka, Regirock, Aggron, Rhyperior, Gigalith, both Golem, Relicanth, Crustle*, Sudowoodo, Armaldo
>Shell Smash
Carracosta, Omastar, Crustle*, Magcargo*, Barbaracle, Minior

Then you have Pokemon that are clearly trying to do something different but have total dropkick stats or abilities. Rampardos, Lunatone, Solrock and Midnight-Lycanroc.

Tyranitar is good because it is a 600 BST behemoth, except its BST is actually closer to 660 for as long as sand is up, making it incredibly bulky on both sides, as well as providing weather support. It also has a notably wide movepool, a good boosting move on dragon dance, an unique typing that lets it shit on most fire and psychic types, and at least 4 viable sets, inclusing a mega that doesn't such like garchomp's.

Tyranitar could afford being any type other than rock IF any other type provided it the SpD boost rock gives it on sand.

Did you just take one look at the type chart and decide that the typing was shit?
Grass is great for support mons and status. There are a lot of viable Grass types.
Even after Fairy's introduction I would still put Poison far below Grass.

You don't have to be Bug Type to use Bug Moves, especially the best one, U-turn. And they're resisted excessively.

Yeah, it's nice for every Water type ever to get it as a free coverage move, it also sucks that Ice is the worst defensive type in the game without any question and has been for 6 generations straight, while also being almost universally stacked with defensively stat spreaded Pokémon, lowering the effectiveness of good offence while bringing up the defence issue even greater.

It is really good to be immune to those moves.
Those moves that are almost exclusvely used by Grass types. They only cuck themselves.

Similar problems to Ice too, just not aaaas bad. Also has an issue where all the moves for it are garbage, when your stand outs are shit like Stone Edge and fucking Power Gem, compared to say, Outrage and Draco Meteor, there is an issue.

Just make Ice resist Water and Ground and have a defense boost in hail already.
Rock types should at least have more defenses.
Bug types should get more stat boosts overall. Most of the Bug-Flying mons are really trash even with moves like Quiver Dance.
Grass type is alright, it is inmune to its own status moves.

Water, Steel, Electric and Fairy are pretty broken on the other hand. Few weaknesses and good type coverage and inmunities are pretty absurd.

Except it's literally the opposite.

I wouldn't put Electric near the top at all. A lot of them have pretty damn shallow coverage options, and god help you if you're on the physical side of things. Volt Switch being almost exclusive to Electric mons is their saving grace.
If I had to pick a 4th best type I would rather go with Dark, just see how prevalent the type is right now.

Actually, Grass is pretty damn good, and some of its weaknesses (Bug, Flying) aren't that common. In fact, nobody used Poison offensively that much before Fairy Pokemon were a thing.

Maybe. The thing that bothers me about Electric types is how they tend to be really fast and only has one weakness as well as immunity to Paralysis.
Dark types are weak to both Fairy and Fighting, which are pretty damn common. They are also fast, but they tend to be even more frail than electrics and they have no weather or terrain advantages. At least they aren't affected by Prankster now.

The problem with water types is that they don't have a lot of weaknesses which make them ideal defensively and has arguably the best weather in the game, on top of most of them gaining ice coverage for one of its weaknesses

Also water has great move on the special and physical side always with good distribution. Some old special type still lack some widely distributed 80 bp/100% accuracy physical move when physical water type got waterfall as soon as the split happen. Water even got liquidation, a fucking 85 bp/100% accuracy physical move that can lower the target defense when rock, an old physical type, still don't have a 100% accuracy physical move with a power greater than 50.

Water is not a solid type, it's one of the best type in the game.
