Pokemon sells on the name alone and if they actually put effort on the game, be it graphics, animations, features or all of the above, all it'd do is make it harder for them to come up with something different or exciting for the next game that's why Masuda likes to give us bits of features and take them out the next gen so they can re-introduce them as a selling point in the future
One example i can think of is Yokai Watch, first game sold well so what did they do?
Yokai watch 2 felt like a cash-grab, they re-used like 60% of the first game and on top of that made 2 versions and if that wasn't enough they made a third version that barely added anything
