Both. One version is you going through Sinnoh and in the postgame you can cross the border and explore a recently Plasma-liberated Unova. The other version is the opposite. Like HGSS but with some effort put in the additional region.

No, it isn't. Nothing is in Japan. Everything is in the Pokemon World. Sinnoh can be close to Unova, there's nothing stopping it. It would also be more interesting to travel from one region to the other by foot, otherwise it would raise the question "Why not fly to every region then?"

Battle Zone island would have to be a postgame area for both of them. The frontier would probably be sans the Tower and possibly have a second Battle Subway station. Sinnoh should have its own Battle Subway station accessible halfway through the game too.

It's how you get between the regions

my dream for a DPPt or BW remake is that it expands on the unova cave which is meant to connect to sinnoh... somehow? as well expanding on the sinjoh ruins. something lorefag heavy like that i would enjoy.

there could be no BW remake for example, yet N and hilbert/hilda return and have major roles in the DPPt postgame with continuation of their story post-BW2 (OG-Dragon could be a DPPt remake event pokemon.) that's another thing i like to dream about.

No. Canonically in-game the two regions are far apart. Multiple characters have stated this, there have been world maps, and so on.
