the biggest problem smogon has is that 99% of te userbase is trash at the game
It's pretty much impossible to play it because you have to play 200+ game to get to an elo where people actually understand the respective format

VGC has a ridiculous numbers of problems but at least it's playable

vgc isn't that well known , you have to try to get into it
90% of OU / UU / Ubers players just wanted to try pokemon battling on a simulator and just made a team on the fly

This doesn't really change the ratio of shitters to good players. People will still go into Battle Spot VGC with their in-game teams and get crushed, just like the people playing with their favorites on Showdown. If anything, making serious competition harder massively increases the ratio of bads to good, since it takes so much more effort to get over that initial hump of getting a good team.
