Physical attackers, almost regardless of type, get Earthquake, Stone Edge/Rock Slide and Knock Off. They're some of the best moves in the game.
Special attackers generally do not get high power coverage moves. Their high power moves tend to be less accurate than physical equivalents.

Special attackers get BoltBeam, Dazzling Gleam, and Hidden fucking Power. Also moves like Overheat, Draco Meteor, Fire Blast, Leaf Storm and the like which don't have comparable non-recoil physical equivalents. I'll give you Focus Blast, that blows.

If it's so bad why do so many special attackers (and even some physical like Ferrothorn and Tangrowth) run it? It's almost like coverage is basically as important as raw power, and HP allows for perfect c.

If I had to guess it's because of x4 weaknesses. Fire, Rock, and Ice x4 are the most commonly seen among high level pokemon. Otherwise I'm sure they'd just run something else.

That's probably why there are so many ways to neuter physical. Remember in Gen 1 they made the mistake of giving special a Powerful boosting move. Even though only like 3 pokemon got it, it proved to be too strong they quickly nerfed it the very next gen and left special types with no way to receive a double boost until two gens later.

Literally because it's probably their only alternative for having extra coverage. Otherwise they'd run something else. Do you think Tapu Lele would run HP Fire if it had Fire Blast or Flamethrower? It's just an alternative.

Bad example. Not only do much less Pokemon get Boltbeam than Rock/Ground, many of the ones that do are either legendaries (which generally have large movepools anyway) or physical normal types (Miltank has 40 Sp. Atk)

Also, Overheat and the like are more inaccurate than physical recoil, and short of having Contrary or a White Herb, immediately halve the power of the Pokemon using it. Any Fairy type other than Magearna would much rather have Light of Ruin than Fleur Cannon.
Recoil is much less detrimental than forcing yourself to switch.

I mean. Yeah. That's the point. That's what he's saying. Hidden Power fills gaps in a Pokemon's movelist. It provides coverage it wouldn't normally have, and presumably needs. The larger point here is that special attackers can have coverage bespoke to their type, regardless of their overall moveset, while physical attackers don't have anything similar.

Swords dance also gets crazy distribution, meanwhile nasty plot is super rare. Physical is also the realm of priority. If they had shit that nerfed sp attackers, they wouldn't even be worth using.

But switching is sacrificing a turn, makes you take entry hazards, and if the opponent predicts your attack, you hit with a resisted attack and still lose your offensive power, while a recoil move that gets resisted, you just lose a bit of hp
