There's not any major difference after the alpha. 1996 Ivysaur is slightly lower to the ground than 2004 Ivysaur, and that's about it. Not a redesign, just different artists.

I'm sure you're very good at pic related but that's hardly a redesign. The most you can say is that the change to his hind legs make him look more mammalian than froglike, but it's a very subtle change. Everything else can be chalked up to a change in artstyle. Adding two leaves is hardly "a redesign to be more appealing."

Anon, when they go from concept to another for all future instances it's called a redesign.

Ivysaur is no longer "canonically" has only two leaves, it's no longer has roundy limbs, no longer has frog-like feet, etc..

Considering they were all done by Sugimori, he left the old Ivysaur and never used that design again, that's what called "re-design".

The only change in design is from pre-release to 1996.
1996 and 1998 are best but it didn't get redesigned they just changed the art style of pokemon overall (for the worse).

Are you kidding? It's not a fucking redesign. Standing a different way/being drawn in a different angle does not a redesign make, you absolute brainlet.

Ivysaur had 4 leaves in Stadium, so I'm venturing a guess it's the angle that makes it look like it has two leaves.

Yes, those are all art direction changes not redesigns. Most of the differences aren't really changes to the design but details Sugimori doesn't consider specific enough to keep consistent.

Now he has redesigned Pokémon before but they're things are are more noticeable as a change. Things like the colour changes for Caterpie and Jynx, those are redesigns.

These are art direction changes though because you just alters 1 detail as you say.

In you logic, Bulbasaur going from Blue to Green is considered a redesign too.

I used Jynx as an example because that was a change intentionally made that was even edited for the western virtual console release of Yellow. Caterpie thinking about it appears to be that the anime got the colour scheme wrong and fixed it in later episodes.
