Like all forms of life, they had to have resulted from specific chemical reactions, at least the ones that could possibly be explained as having cells. The others, I can't determine since the material they're made of doesn't consist of cells. It's possible they're a form of life that perhaps doesn't need that, but I would have to know how such a mechanism works, and I don't.
