>>36459922Think the explanation for the difference here is this:
A normal Pokemon battle has the Pokemon pit their abilities against each other, it's a contest to see who's better.
This, meanwhile, is fueled by simple hate and rage. And that's not okay.
Either way, it's subtext added in by 4kids. In the original Japanese, the conflict was the "Cloned Pokemon vs Purebreds" thing- which, at the very least, was Mewtwo's stated reason for starting the battle, and was still referenced at the very end, so at least that still survived partially.
...Albeit, I've seen plenty of people that completely miss Mewtwo's stated reason for the battle starting, so when Mewtwo drops the original, Japanese Aesop at the end, it's a bolt from the blue.
>>36459940...I mean, maybe it's the sheer number of times I watched it as a little kid (having the first two movies on VHS was my first exposure to Pokemon as a whole, well before I had the ability to play the games) but that's a detail I've known about for quite a while. Pretty sure it's a line Mewtwo explicitly drops right before the battle starts.
>>36459962Cages that were clearly quite painful to be in- Pokeballs, meanwhile, are some sort of magical-sci-fi thing that painlessly and humanely converts the Pokemon into some sort of magical compact energy.
Plus, there's the whole "These three Pokemon in particular generate the equivalent of the Gulf Stream" thing.
