For years, Kanto and the normies who put it so high on a pedestal have plagued the franchise to the point that we're now on our 2nd Kanto remake, but not without copious amounts of callbacks to the region. So when it was time for Kanto to plague Sun and Moon, Masuda left it up to Ohmori and Iwao.
What's really going on then? Masuda is sick to death of Kanto and wants to move on. Now, how would one go about that on a franchise that seems to revel in near-constant Kanto circlejerking? Making a heartless game that's guaranteed to tank. And when it does? They can finally focus on innovating the series.
