Post your thoughts about pokemon game mechanics.
Pokemon shouldn't be completely linear but also shouldn't be open world. Instead, the first few gyms should be in a linear fashion and then the rest of the gyms up until the last one are available in any order. Just think:
>Defeat gym 1
>Gym leader: "Well done there. I think you've got potential for the league. You should challenge [2nd gym leader] next in [next town]. Good luck! [rest of stuff given to you like Badge and TMs]"
>Defeat gym 2
>Gym leader: "You've definitely got what it takes, but you're still not there yet. I'd suggest challenging [3rd gym leader] next in [next town]. Congrats on beating me, though. That was a good battle! [stuff given]"
>Defeat gym 3
>Gym leader: "Hey, you're pretty good at this! That was a fun battle! Take this, you've earned it! [stuff given] You've still got a long ways to go before the league, but you can do it! I'm sure!"
>Guide at gym entrance: "Yo! Champ in the making! Nice job beating the leader here! I think you could give most gym leaders in this region a run for their money! I hear [town 4], [town 5], [town 6], and [town 7] all have pretty hard gyms. Think you could take them on?"
Excuse the amateur dialogue, but you get the idea. The 8th gym would be locked until you beat the previous 7, all of the gyms would be scaled based on badges, etc.
What other ideas do you guys have?
