I thought of it like this as a kid, one of the big fights against Magma was atop this mountain, therefore maybe they went back there. They didn't go back there, but after wandering down the mountain I went into the base thinking I didn't see this hole beforehand and big, badda, boom the game continued.

As a team magma fan it didnt make sense they used aqua's hideout in ruby. So I knew since aqua was there. Magma must be at a the volcano.

It was also pretty weird how "added on" and unfinished looking the magma hideout was

Ruby didnt have the magma hideout on the trail between lavaridge and the volcano. It was on the edge of lilycove.

Gen 10 won't be a dress up game where you just choose a Pokémon and have it follow around you... It'll actually choose the Pokémon and dress it up for you too.
