We're cheating, but it's not as disruptive as something like using an aimbot in a shooter, or having max health in a fighting game. It's not as harmless as using a program to edit your player name either though, it's somewhere in between those examples. It's arguable where it sits exactly inside that spectrum, but it's in it.
To me it's a way to remove the parts of the game I don't enjoy, which is dealing with IVs mainly, and with the fact that Pokemon I used in the story will be garbage forever. So that's why I still catch everything and never gen something out of scratch, but I edit the IVs to be perfect and sometimes nature too on existing Pokemon. I can enjoy the parts of the game that I like full-time that way, which still includes playing the RPG and trading/collecting, just not sitting there for hours soft resetting for a good legendary or breeding. That's unfun cancer to me.
