I've actually played, and still have Colosseum, never heard of Gale of Darkness, though.

But, I want to play actual pokemon games, like the competitive ones on the big screen.

Citra has its own multiplayer system now, you can't battle or trade people using a non-emulated game but you can if they're also emulating.

Not on Gen 8 but likely so given how much ARM and fabrication processes are advancing.

Maybe not before 5-6 years though and even then the best you can hope for is 1800p upscaled if lucky.

Pokémon's main target audience are children.
Children get more handhelds than home consoles.
Pokémon main series are still going to be released for handhelds.
So unless more Let's Go games are released for an eventual home console Switch successor and somehow have a competitive setting, I'd say no.
For a more personal note, I think that Pokémon is a game that REQUIRES "ultra good" graphics. 1080p is more than enough.
