GF prefers to default to depicting the protagonists as the male character while being pretty shy about bringing back protags other than Red. However I think this is a mistake and that in future depictions (which should occur) it should be standardised based on whichever is the more popular character design as reflected in polls.

Therefore the canon protags should be:
1. Red
2. Gold
3. May
4. Dawn
5. Hilbert
5.1 Rosa
6. Serena
7. Selene (chicken hat form)
