HMs are fine. They're only a problem when you need to overrely on them just to move forward through the game (Sinnoh). They would be better if they weren't almost all bad in-battle though, and if actually catching various Pokemon over the course of the game were more integrated.

You're a trainer adventuring with your bros, not a faggy tourist who rents pokemon from comparies and wear pads

The only good way is letting you ride your own pokemon but without needing HMs

Why not just have two on-field slots per Pokemon so you DON'T have to teach your team trash or gimp yourself to a team of 5 (or four in a worst case scenario)? I would love to have teleport/dig on the side without it being wasted as a move slot in battle.

Having to rent a Sharpedo to explore a bay when you own a Gyarados is retarded
Maybe they could keep the rentals for the brainlets who want to travel the region with their 6 Rattata, but there should also be the option to use your own Pokemon for normal people who have the brain to include a flying and a surfing mon in their teams

getting rid of HMs was the best thing about Gen VII. I've heard some people suggest a compromise of teaching Pokémon HMs for field moves but that the moves don't replace anythign in their moveset so you don't need to worry about them in battle, just for dungeon-solving. Which is the kind of thing GF should've done over a decade ago if nothing else.

In small doses HMs aren't too bad in my opinion, Surf is a decent move. It's when you need like 5 different HMs that are near useless in battle to traverse just once area that it becomes cancerous

I like HMs in theory because they're a move a player has to sacrifice on their journey. However in the original game only three HMs were ever actually necessary to traverse the game and three is the perfect number.

Anyway, HM being gone is good, it's how they handle the change is what most people have problems with (e.g. Pokeride).
