>>36497300It was an awful region if were being honest here. Urban adventures just didn’t sit right with me and lots of other people because it just didn’t feel like Pokémon (and yes, even the Pokémon were atrocious compared to previous gens). Half of the places in unova that I went to were severely washed out and gray, Giving an overall depressing vibe, which may have been on purpose.
The theme put the relationship between people and Pokémon in the spotlight more than any other gen, but the game before it (HGSS) did a better job of FUNCTIONALLY implementing that, which was mind boggling. Following Pokémon, Pokeathlon and the mechanics behind it did a better job of exploring the bond between you and Pokémon as a person playing a game and not reading text about shoved down philosophy.
Honestly, Gen V explored a theme about the capturing and enslavement of Pokémon and ended it with “they want to be enslaved after I caught them so it’s fine”. I can’t tell if Gen V and the people who wrote it wanted to change the entire course of how we play Pokémon from then on (which may have been amazing), but it simply didn’t deliver, or were just trying to give an incredibly underwhelming response to PETA. We still catch like normal, we still treat them like normal but with petting. Gen V didn’t impact the series. At all.
Lastly, It sold worse than any gen.
>HURR SALES =/= QUALITYYea, but uh, it selling the least means that it didn’t really do anything right either. Only one of the games was made at the end of the ds lifespan, and USUM did well despite the 3DS being all but dead with the switch already out as a functional handheld. It wasn’t bought all that much compared to previous gens because no one wanted to buy it. That’s the truth.
They can be good games or whatever you want to defend them for, but if it doesn’t feel like a Pokémon game then it’s still a bad Pokémon game.
