Let's take Fire Emblem Awakening as an example.
Fire Emblem Awakening was meant to attract newcomers, yet the only mechanic they removed was weapon weight (which only mattered to units with low con/str anyway). They kept everything else :
-Most classes (with replacement/new classes)
-Promotion items (Master Seal and Second Seal replaced class specific promotion items, which makes sense in a streamlining context)
-Most weapons (light magic was scraped after FE8 anyway. It's a shame they removed Heavy weapons though, but it makes sense with the whole weight removal thing)
-Skills
-"Explorable" overworld (ala FE8)
-etc...
And that's only game mechanics.
They had to make dozens of new characters, have them interact with eachother, make multiple models and animations depending on the class/weapons of each character, make out of battle and in battle maps, make a story from the ground up, come up with and record a (orchestral) soundtrack...
They had to do all of that in 2 years for a dying series.
What's GF excuse ?
