I have never played a gen V or VI game
What exactly am i missing
Is it even worth playing them now that Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee are almost out?

Gen V is one of the best generations of Pokemon in many aspects. You don't need to play VI or Let's Go, just play V.

Gen five is one of the most absolutely average games ever to be made. If i had to describe it in one word, it would be "toast and water." Play it or don't, but you can absolutely expect not to be either thrilled or dissapointed with it.

OP, you'll likely have a lot more fun with 5. 5 introduced a lot of QoL features, not the least of which was reusable TMs. The games had good music, and despite LOL TRASH AND ICE CREAM the pokemon are pretty solid. If you're only going to play one Gen 5 game, make it Black2/White2. Otherwise, pick White or Black and then choose the reverse for the sequels.

Gen 5 is the best generation by far. I’d play Gen 6 first though. It’s good but much like how it released it’s hard to follow up B2W2.

Gen V is ok. There is some decent QoL improvements but the experience system used in the games makes them way more grind-y. As far as I remember you can't rebattle trainers either so parts of it do feel like marching through treacle.

Gen VI was quite easy I found. Tbh I had a bit of difficulty trying to keep my team under the level cap before the next gym at points but just turn the exp share off and it's not so bad. I did think Gen VI was a lot of fun though. If I was ranking on fun alone, I'd put Gen VI pretty high.

Really? I do it all the time, and Mega Evolutions were put in post game in Gen 7 so I don’t think they’re really a necessity for every play through.

BW2 are the best core series games, so no it isn't really worth playing the nu-gens.

They introduced literally Gay-type and turned Pokémon into Digimon in gen 6, don't touch that steaming pile of shit.
