Pokemon is pretty much designed to be easy on the player to adapt, just catch whatever route one shitmon until you find something else in the areas with stronger pokemon. You don't even have to get rid of your route one shitmons if you learn how to make good use of them.
Fuck, I rebuilt a friend's team while playing his Ultra Moon save in a couple of hours. It's not difficult. Catch a pokemon, test if it can take hits or hit hard, put it on your team or not; Furret is not a convoluted alien pokemon but just a shittier support version of Raticate, Bibarel is like a bulkier Raticate with better typing, Stoutland can be godmode shitmon with its great fang coverage you can unlock by just fucking talking to NPCs and getting the right items.
Pokemon will not be any more difficult to learn when there are over a literal hundred of them not hard to learn.
