Going by the numbers, Hoenn doesn't have a terrible type discrepancy problem all things considered, since you can get at least 3 kinds of most types before Flannery and even start investing multiple DRAGONS. It's just the niches it misses; half its normals are bad or difficult and if you want a fast fire type in a timely fashion (Vulpix on Mt. Pyre) or a fast fighting type of any kind and you need to go Blaziken.

The problem with Hoenn was the fact that everything was a slow frail mixed attacker and it was fucking awful.
Also surfing routes were way too fucking long and were filled with the same 4 fucking Pokemon.

why is this a problem, exactly? in game is very different than competitive, and sea routes don't really need bloat to the encounters, you have more underwater and fishing

Gamefreak doesn’t give a shit about game balance. They probably design the world and put the Pokemon in after where it would make sense. Most Fire-types only make sense in a volcano which you can’t put Willy nilly. Even 8 year old me thought it was retarded that Ponyta was in the Tall Grass section in D/P.

Too few Fire types is preferable to too few Water types. In B2/W2 there was a major problem with a lack of good water types, if you didn't pick Samurott your best shot was trying to evolve Eevee into Vaporeon or wait till late-game for decent water types.

Oh yeah I can see what you mean. They really should have just allowed the elites to have some pokemon from other regions. Although that wouldn't really fix Phoebe as she'd still have at least on double on her team, unless she decided to use Misdreavus for some reason

Water is the most populous type, and Gen 3, being about 30% sea-based, had one of the strongest collections of them. Not much of Hoenn warranted Fire-types aside from the volcano area.

Blaziken is the best type of fire in this game, if not use it is better not to have one of fire because Cammerupt and Torkal are two pieces of shit and Ninetales has a horrid back sprite and (and is not at all popular)

Everyone who likes the fire type always starts with Blaziken. Game Freak should have put Growlithe, Magby or Houndour to contend with him
