I mean, Bulbasaur clearly didn't like Charmander or Squirtle. And Squirtle in that episode didn't give much of a fuck about his trainer. None of them gave a shit about Pidgeotto.

Butterfree was kind of friends with Pikachu and then left with his girlfriend pretty early. Ash's Pokemon hardly interacted with Pidgeotto for all of Kanto. Even Ash, Misty, and Brock didn't give him any recognition until pretty much the day they left him behind. He was the scout and was there to blow away Koffing's bullshit. Just used as a tool and then discarded. At least he's the Chad of Route 1 now.

Jessie's Ekans and James' Koffing were confirmed to be male in LGPE. In the Japanese version of this episode, they both used male pronouns. Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander also used male pronouns. Are they male too?

Honestly, I do like this but also like the idea they became friendly to one another as a well-honed team. But I always liked the idea of Ash's first six mons having a true companionships with each other.

All seriousness I'm surprised Pidgeotto didn't get paired up with Pikachu and the RGBY starters more for how long he was around. Indigo arc was basically those five plus a sixth mon of the whenever and those are some of the most quintessential Kanto mons.
