I distinctly remember getting HG. I was super ill that day and couldn't go into college, so a nearby family member picked up my preorder and brought it over. Spent the whole night playing it whilst it stormed outside, sitting up against the radiator.

Johto's always been my favourite region, I have massively font memories of playing GSC and HGSS, it doesn't feel like it's been almost ten years, since they were released.

My first Pokémon game was Blue, but Crystal is the one I will have in my heart forever.
999 hours, my first shinies (based pink Crobat), Dex almost completed, the crazy stuff I made up to not being bored (like pretending to be the ship's captain or revisiting all gym leaders just for fun).
I was looking forward to HGSS and they didn't disappoint me. Probably the best and most complete Pokémon games in the last decade, there was so much stuff to do.

I'm currently replaying HG (have both HG and SS original boxes still) and I can say this; every single day I feel like going back to it and playing more

Silver is by far my favorite rival. His idealization of strength felt very real to me with the back story he had. Seeing him progress over the entire course of the game was really great.

I've been living under a rock when it comes to Pokemon. Only a week ago I realised that GSC had their remakes made 9 years ago. I'm playing through it for the first time and it's amazing. Before that I've only finished Crystal, Gold and Red. There are so many cool (and viable) pokemon that I cannot decide on my party to take on the Elite 4 with. It does feel harder, too. Probably because of the physical/special split. It's been long since Whitney, Falkner or Morty gave me trouble but this time around it took me a couple of tries to beat each of them. Can't wait to get to kanto/postgame content lads.

Man I loved the shit out of these games. I strictly remember coming home on that cold fall evening, the skies were rather cloudy and I think it was raining pretty hard. I had just came home from Gamestop and popped SS into my DS and chose Cyndaquil. Being able to play through an updated Johto with so much love, the classic landmarks I remembered fondly like the Ruins of Alph being as adventurous as always, it just hit me man. Johto has to be one of the best regions in terms of giving you a proper adventure and feeling comfy. I'd place it next to Sinnoh.

Johto is far from my favorite region, but god damn it's nice to see a johto thread. Wish I had some art to post but I don't.
HG is probably my second favorite in the series though, I remember playing slow my second time around it took 3 years but it's burned into my memory far more than W2 which i finished in a week. HG is comfy, and with the Gameboy sounds it's so good.

That was such a beautiful feature. It really showed you how the series had grown from the original G/S and it overloads you with emotion. I have little faith in the future of the series in terms of mainline games, but it'd be nice if we got something similar to that in a future remake. Maybe an item that lets you turn 3D models into sprites? I dunno.

I like to think they met up a few years after their last battle and started traveling together, Silver being a lot more mature and less cold towards Gold and his pokemon. I admit to thinking about this exact scenario more than a normal person should and having written a 10000+ word fanfic about it

Johto is so comfy. I was aware of pokemon during gen 1, but I was not really into it outside of some episodes of the anime. Was more of a digimon guy Gold was my first game in the series, and my god, was it magical. I love the color plalette, the music and pokemon selection. I still think Johto along with Hoenn, have the best selection of pokemon overall, with designs that are varied and unique. One of my favorite experiences was learning where Heracross was and catching it. I also love the hell out of the happiness mechanic, made the pokemon feel more real, along with gender choices and breeding. Gen 2 did quite a bit in giving life to the pokemon world.

My fondest pokemon memories was playing on Stadium 2 with my friends, using our caught mons and playing the mini games. Nothing in this series has yet compared to that experience since.

I’m glad you think so based Silver/Gold anon. Once I’ve finished the first chapter I’ll be sure to link it here. It wouldn’t be a pipe dream to think they may return in Gen 8 like Red and Blue did, but depending on the quality the series takes I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Seeing them as adults would be awesome though

i dont want to start a new thread and this one seems good enough so:
is doing a genwunner/muh nostalgia run on white 2 lame because i wont catch any pokemon? will this remove enjoyment from playing it? i'm thinking of using a gen1 starter, starmie, mammoswine and a few others.

Know it doesn't technically add any more depth to the gameplay but following pokemon was such a nice thing to have. Feels more like an adventure when it's not you all alone on the overworld.

I've been listening to the tracks on the original G/S and I still love the music for it. Obviously it's because of how things were advancing in 2000, but it has a real tune to its themes that I really like and it gave Johto a different feeling from Kanto, and made Kanto feel different because of the 2 year gap.

and it's still one of the best Pokemon games for me alongs side Platinum.
Johto and Sinnoh are my favourite regions and feature my favourite Pokemon. Also the sprite based graphics peaked with HGSS. They just age so much better than 3D models.
