Why didn't they give it an ability like Regenerator, or something else thematically in line with it's presented powers? I don't care about movie fidelity, but it would've been neat to see something like an ability that acts like Leftovers.

Not exactly missed, but Pressure being the ability a lot of Legendaries have seem a bit... cheap, I guess? I mean I get the whole "fear from facing such a powerful being" and all, and some do have HA, but I still feel they can do better than that.

and its effect makes no sense for that description. this suggests something like having a chance to make a pokemon flinch with any attack, not doubling down on pp usage

The lack of unique abilities on legendaries makes me mad. I want them to have abilities that truly give them a legendary title. A general power upgrade to all other pokemon as well to level the field, maybe a restriction to where legendary especially can be used.

I dunno. Give Deoxys an ability called Mutagen, let it transform between turns and have a different effect for each form

The point was that legendaries already have OP stats and moves so they don't need an OP ability too. Of course, /vp/ is full of children who just want everything to be so OP because...

So it's just Pressure in particular you're upset about? Since Dream World Abilities became a thing the only legendaries that only have Pressure are Deoxys and Kyurem. Kyurem has alternate formes with different abilities and Deoxys-Defense at least appreciates the pressure stall.

No, I mean a general power creep would be good. To the point where it's imposible to truly counter a team. It would put more emphasis on strategy. Every Pokemon should be good, but legendaries should be a cut above.
Them being OP is absolutely the point. They would need restrictions in game and in VGC, but that's exactly my point. Most legendaries hardly deserve the title as it is.

Oh. Well that was only for like, two generations. Heck, you could argue it mattered even less considering the power creep wasn't quite there. Nobody's going to argue that the likes of Mewtwo and Lugia weren't still good by the end of Gen IV. Heck if you wanna go by smogon, Lati@s were Ubers without Pressure and look at them now. A lot of people call Gen V the "power creep" generation but they buffed a lot of things too, legendaries included, kind of like >>36524251 says but less extreme.
