It's not even close. Butterfree learns all the Powder moves and can learn psychic attacks. I took one to level 100 in Red back in the day. Sleep Powder and Psychic.

I like Butterfree's design better. I like Beedrill's cry better. I wouldn't use either of them now, but I did use Butterfree when I first played the games.

Butterfree can have a moveset of three status moves and a psychic attack early on.

I was thinking I could transfer over a Poipole as a starter, transfer over 2 Combee (One of each gender) then use 2 Beedrill (One for Mega, for one not mega).

But now that I think about it, you don't get Mega Evolution until post game in Gen 7 so it won't work out that way anyways. Maybe in Gen 8.
