Totodile is by far the easiest to use in both Gen 2 and the remakes.
Besides the tower and the Gym Typhlosion has basically nothing going for it.
Which is weird because they seemingly intend the starters to be difficulty settings and that worked in Gen 1 but Gen 2 is a mess in that regard.
Totodile is easy mode while Cyndaquil, like charmander before it is basically hard mode and Chikorita is Intense or something since even most Water-Types give zero fucks about it with Flying or Poison as secondary types and Razor Leaf being it's strongest STAB move.
No surprise though. Despite being nice for being pretty open for exploration, the level design is terrible with no flags set based on badge collection to fix levels in your current area.
