Been playing through a physical copy of Ruby I bought online last week. What is it about Gen III that's so much better than the remakes?

The seamless overworld is probably my favourite thing about RSE.
You can go from Meteor Falls to Ever Grande City without once having a black screen, it makes the world feel much bigger.

It's mostly technical things, funny enough. Far better framerate, seamless world, and the better version of some songs instrument-wise.

They have really unique aesthetics, objectively some of the best routes in the entire franchise and a shitload of hidden/non-plot related things to find and do.
The region also has a pretty clever design since there's usually long routes between the towns but nearly all of them have shortcuts so you can get to most of the areas pretty fast even without using Fly.
Also I liked the idea of having two evil teams that were battling each other.

Literally only applies to Mightyena and Absol
Cacturne has 115 Sp.Atk
Crawdaunt has 90
Sableye has 65 (only 10 lower than its attack)
Sharpedo has 95
Shiftry has 90
They are all SLOW (and/or) FRAIL MIXED ATTACKERS though

Even if that is the case, many of these Pokemon have shitty movepools in Gen 3 and can't properly capitalize on their mixed attacking stats. Dark, Grass, and Ghost especially don't have much in the way of attacking options in Gen 3.

Taunt and Knock Off before buff. Good moves for a slow, frail mixed attacker. It doesn't even get Crunch this gen... Wow.
