I agree with DP being too long, but there really isn't that much filler in this series. (Most of the fillers in DP are either tied together to a storyline such as Team Galactic, or are connected to in-game locations such as Valley Windworks or Eterna Forest.) DP probably has the best narrative and character development out of any Pokemon series.

Plus there's a ton of fun Pokemon acquisition episodes like Noctowl, Wobbuffet (god tier), Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile

That episode is great, but you should stop watching Johto after the Whitney gym two parter. The league is worth watching afterwards but that's it. Parts of XY and all of SM are worth watching for excellently animated segments, but 2/3rds of Johto, all of Hoenn, all of Sinnoh and all of Unova are just non-content. Even when Unova tried doing different things it was just terrible.

I totally agree with you, but I can also see him being right. DP has a superslow pace as it's the only season that lasts 4 years and is set in only 1 region (not even battle zone) and has a obscene number of fillers. Still better than the fillerfest as well Johto in term of quality that's for sure.

I really doubt there's some massive drop off in the next two season considered that's when all the actual shit happens.
Johto Journey's manages to be peak comfy/fun filler with only 2 badges and a couple of Pokemon acquisitions over the course of the whole thing.
