>>36556601People who actively play competitively, most of them cheat. The ones who claim they don't use hacked Dittos to breed, guaranteed, which is indirectly cheating anyway and as easy mode as breeding gets, the gulf in time required between using a 6 IV Ditto and not using one is insanely large.
Some weirdos actuallyt RNG manipulate for their Dittos, but their autism is so powerful it's rare to find them in the wild, and even then it's basically cheating anyway.
So whatever purpose IV/nature mechanics serve, the negatives far outweight the benefits. That said, no matter how simple they make it people will always cheat, it's just in the nature of some people unfortunately, as long as cheating is "press button for perfect Pokemo"n and legit playing requires you to do ANYTHING at all, they'll cheat, so trying to appease them is basically like negotiating with terrorists.
What they should do is make it so that every single Pokemon can potentially be as good as one of the same species, period, but not make it an instant "GIMME NOW" button either, make it a core part of the RPG. Catching or breeding dozens of Pokemon to find the "right" one is not fun and antithetical to the spirit of the series. The very first Pokemon you get as a starter should be competitively viable in some way, that's a design goal they need to achieve while still making going after rare variants or specs of Pokemon worthwile. Tricky, but possible.
