I tried to put together a 'simple' visualization of the difference it can make, with 4 Salamences. (Note, when it says DVs, that's the same as IVs) Also, we're only looking at its Attack stat, for simplicity's sake.
The first Salamence has an IV of 0 for attack, 0 attack IVs, and a nature that doesn't affect its attack stat, so it has 275 Attack.
The second Salamence is the same, EXCEPT it has an attack IV of 31, so its final Attack stat is 306, which is 31 higher than the previous Salamence.
The third Salamence is the same, except it now has 252 attack EVs. This gives its attack a boost of 63, for a total of 369.
The final Salamence has an attack IV of 31, 252 attack IVs, and a nature that boosts its attack, resulting in a final attack stat of 405.
