The song, melody's bantz with misty, and a lot of the throw away lines were better in the dub than a straight translation. Did 4kids improve the anime overall or was this just a high note?

As much crap 4kids gets for censoring stuff, they definitely do have a way of making certain aspects of this and Yu-Gi-Oh a lot more memorable. Is it worth it? Idk. But I think we're in a good timeline.

I know 4Kids dub gets trashed a lot for censorship (no deaths) and Americanizing stuff (jelly doughnuts) but I do think the latter has its charm and is humorous in a way. Of course there's no excusing dumbshit like Arbok evolving into Seviper

Additionally, the voice acting is pretty top notch and the songs they did on their own were great. Taking out themes of death is the only annoyance of mine but it's minor, so call me a dubfag but I do think they did an improvement.

Guys, here me out on this one: What if the original scripts have always been shit and your seething hatred for dubs blinded you to the fact that the only reason you hate the current dub is because it sticks too closely to the original script, and also because MUH MUSIC

Anyone who legitimately likes any aspect of 4kids Yugioh over the original is missing out. Mind you, you're missing out no matter what unless you're reading the manga. But Japanese DM has the fucking sickest OST to grace anime.

The only thing the 4kids dub is more "memorable" to is obviously the kids that grew up with it and refuse to move on. To any normal person "Sore wa dou kana?" itself is far more memorable then anything in the dub.

I watched the first season for the first time a few years ago and was surprised at how funny it was. 4kids ruined the Kirby anime but Pokemon ended up alright

4kids Yu-Gi-Oh was genuinely incredible. Yes, censoring death and fights is annoying and it really sucks that they changed Joey's ENTIRE motivation in Battle City, but there's just something amazing about the blend of the writing and the voice acting.

I think Darren Dunstan Pegasus and Wayne Grayson Dartz are better their Japanese counterparts. If only because the former is so stereotype he doesn't translate and the latter is just an inferior Bakura.

Kaiba and Bakura are the only standouts, yeah. Poor Kazama came to the two Yugi roles a VA novice and even after getting better as he went he's just so bland.

Reminder that Eric Stuart's Kaiba makes the 4Kids dub worth it. Literally the one guy who can do a good voice, and is a chill dude IRL too, since he still does the Kaiba voice, fully in-character, at events.

He and Greg Abbey read the choreographed games the best too. Most of the others are tripped up by either their character voices or the length the nwer card effects. It's painful on the odd occasional Zexal characters show up.
