Literally the only official maps that are "simplified" are the Unova and Kalos ones. In Gens 1-2 they were actually more complex than the in-game regions, and in Gens 3-4 they were all "autistically" trying to depict the map 1:1, even with the same number of buildings per settlement.

I like both really. Comparing in-game map with an artwork is always fun to me.
A good map should have every side area on it. Doesn't matter if it is 1:1.
