Dragon Dance was original Lobster Dance, but GF realized there were no Lobster Pokemon, so they named it Dragon Dance, when he was released, they gave him Dragon Dance because it was originally Lobster Dance.

A simple association: dragons, in Japanese myth, are related to the sea (Ryujin is a big example). So you can pretty much say the Namazu - what Whiscash is based on - is a distant cousin of the dragon just because they're part of the sea.

Though the dragon-like whiskers help too.

Granbull is a pun for Fairy
Twister is a pun for Dragon
U-Turn is a pun for Dragonfly (thus Bug-type)
Ampharos is a pun for Dragon
(literally everything that has 'ryu' is a Dragon)
Assist is a pun for cat

I could be wrong but I've heard that lobsters are called something along the line of dragon shrimp in Japan, and I guess crawdads are close enough. Same reason Ebidramon exists in Digimon, presumably.
