You can specialize your Player Character into different Trainer Classes, starting as a Youngster or Lass and having the option to change to anything from Bug Catchers, to Blackbelts and Battle Girls, Bird Keepers and so on, with different classes giving you EXP bonuses and Affection bonuses for Pokémon of certain types, so if you're a Bug Catcher, your Bug-type Pokémon grow faster and happier, and if you're a Hiker your Rock-type Pokémon grow better, etc. And after mastering a certain level of multiple classes or obtaining gym badges you can level up to being a Rising Star which give you more boosts for all of your Pokémon along with elite versions of classes like Bug Maniacs and the like. Finally after doing enough in the game you unlock Ace Trainer status which offers the most gains for your Pokémon as far as your class selections go.
