>>36573840What do you mean by "soul"? Because I think both PMD and some of the main series games have it, but obviously our definitions are different if you think that way.
PMD's more open about the plot. The things that happen all have a sense of agency, and with that comes a greater overarching narrative. The characterization in these games mostly comes from what you're explicitly told or what's seen, like with Special Episodes specifically highlighting what Wigglytuff is like, or how Chatot reacts in certain situations in the main plot. Bidoof and Sunflora both recap the plot in their own way, but compared to what you see in person, you get way more from whoever does the talking. The earlygame also helps establish the world much more, too.
To contrast, (some of) the main series shows off its world in a less in-your-face way. The Johto games, for example, have plenty of culture and lore to go by, but besides a few ramblings from Eusine and Morty, and the Kimono Girls, you won't really understand much of what's going on. Understanding the world comes from the player making their own decision to see what it's like. And while the characters have less to say than PMD ones, they still have humanizing moments where they do everyday activities; you can even call them to understand more about their lives and what goes on beyond just being a Pokemon trainer.
That's not even getting into the gameplay (moreso side content with main series) of them.
They each have their own things to offer, and I appreciate them both for what they are.
>>36573747Teambuilding's a lot of fun. (Almost, if you're someone like Zigzagoon you're fucked) anyone can be good in these games, and you can often find different ways of doing well. Destiny Tower's more restrictive in who you can use, but it offers a great and rewarding challenge, that kind of reminds me of how you have to keep pushing through in the Frontier's Hall, for lack of a better comparison.
