There's a leaker that claimed one of Verge's sources got fed false information and got smoked because of it, but the same leaker said Incineroar is in anyway.
If true, the false information might be the 2nd Square rep, because he seems to be less confident about that compared to Ken and Incineroar who are backed by all 3 (4 for Incineroar) of his sources.

Because no Pokemon gen has been skipped in Smash unless it was already over when the Smash game released.

I actually wouldnt mind playing as Zeraora at least in smash I'd have it's shiny form to use and it seems like it looks good running on all fours compared to Incineroar who looks like a gorilla on all fours.

Besides, since Pokemon Trainer counts as a single character, a new one would just make it equal to Mario. They'd both have eight characters, which is perfectly reasonable for such big franchises.
