They'll line up Pokemon #1000 to be some super special Mythical or a huge Genwun Reference like making Mewthree real or making MissingNo an actual Pokemon, but that's it.

#1000 will either be first or the last pokemon of a generation.
After that, we'll get a new gen where they'll either start a new "national" dex with another #001 besides Bulbasaur (very unlikely) or simply keep going from #1001 onward like nothing happened.

What is your limit /vp/? How many Pokemon is too many in the national dex for you? I think I can stand up to 1500, but I'll drop the series after it.

I don't really have a limit, knowing that Pokemon is practically destined to last until the universe concludes and there will eventually be more species of Pokemon than there are living humans.

I think this might be intentional. GF wants there to be enough room in the dex so pokemon #1000 can be a part of Gen 10 since they're both major milestones.

I think Sun and Moon alternat dimension thing was an example of what's to come, when the numbers get too high, maybe over 1000 the games will just start being set on an different universe where the dex starts from 001 again with brand new mons

There are things in Pokemon that I will absolutely agree are bloated. Items and such come to mind.

But there will NEVER such a thing to me as "too many Pokemon". Pokemon are THE THING that Pokemon is. Pokemon are the only thing that Pokemon has over any other franchise. I want all the Pokemon. Keep on making them. Never stop making them.
