Except just one of those mobs ducks up a whole lot more. Mega Mence and talonflame's ubiquity made most grass and bug types borderline unusable, which happened to jack up ground types. Not to mention every other mega was irrelevant because if you use them, you can't use mega Mence.

It's not a legitimate complaint about gen 2, it's a legitimate complaint about HGSS. You can't compare the level curve of gen 2 to modern games, but you can with HGSS because that's a modern game. HGSS should have modernized the level curve, but it didn't because it fails as a remake on every level: it bastardizes the good things snd does nothing about the bad.

That's the remake trend, not that it makes it any better. None of the remakes dramatically alter level curves; all of the remakes improve upon on other aspects of their sources, or in FRLG's case just embellish them nicely with the versus seeker and islands.

Don't get why you'd argue for it being too easy though, considering one of the biggest complaints about both the original and remake is that the level curve for end-game is kind of fucked. That and it's one of the few Pokemon game where trainers actually bother to switch out Pokemon for bad matchups.

Some of Hoenn's best points are best points are down to taste, too. A slightly better Contest endgame or Secret Bases fulfilling their destiny (well the 3-man teams suck but everything else) doesn't mean much if you just don't like those things, etc. And we've been talking about whether or not the Pokemon selection (ORAS made EVERYTHING stronger, so there's that) and world progression are good from the get go.

The only thing HGSS got going for them are Pokéathlon and nostalgia. Outside of that, the games are incredibly bland and boring. No story, no interesting characters, extremely linear, Kanto being completely empty and boring as fuck, all of the great features from RSE/DPPt gone, and they didn't even bother to fix all of the horrendous flaws that the original GSC had.

I'm a kantokid and gen4 was so bad it made me drop the series that brought me to video games in the first place. pirating black and white out of curiosity caught me in again but wow, gen4 was so bad...

the pacing, the level design, the plot, the characters, the mandatory 8 wasted attack slots, the shitty underground gimmick, the type distribution, the thousand of over the top legendaries, everything sucked.

and seriously, most of the problems listed above were copy pasted into HG/SS, adding to the many issues gentoo had to begin with.

I wouldn't say I'm objective and my global rating isn't definitive but the bottom is clearly 4<2

A fair few of them are 1-5% encounters for at least their first area. Qwilfish (5%), Yanma (1%) and Marill (1%) to name a few.
I'm currently doing a run of HG where I'm working on a living dex as I go through, and catching two Yanma took ages. (I'm aware I could breed one with Ditto but prefer not to)

actually, HGSS has some of the better distribution. It's just locked behind a whole bunch of convoluted mechanics and shit-tier encounter rates. In terms of diversity it goes something like XY > SM > HGSS > Plat or something.
