>you leave through vermillion city, and end up with brock being the last gym leader you challenge
>he has a team built to counter water types, with things like cradily. sand streamers, omastar etc
>you earn your cascade badge by beating your choices of misty’s 3 sister’s, all equipped with a different team
>final boss and champion is a kid from pallet town that picked bulbasaur
>throughout the game you’re rewarded for catching and leveling water types by some guys that serve as stand ins for Oak’s aides
>they give you stuff like eggs, items, tms, or key items if you meet their conditions
