Like fuck it is. Everyone's teams were Infernape/Staraptor/Luxray/water type such as Gastrodon or Floatzel/two other mons, one of which is usually Bronzong or Garchomp.

Fire is good for all the Bronzors/Zongs that team galactic use and are around Mt. Coronet, sometimes used by Hikers as well. Even then its a crap shoot on whether they have levitate or heatproof. Fire can at least can damage a heatproof one for STAB even though it gets reduced by the ability where its other weakness of ground is all or nothing thanks to levitate.

It hurts a ton that they spent a large chunk of the dex making new evolutions that you couldn't even access until post-game.

Only if they're wild, in which case you're better off just running from the damn things. The trainers' will have levitate 100% of the time.

The DP dex was really interesting. Back down to 150 with very few fire-types. They've never been a popular type, but it's really interesting that they didn't just give Flint national dex pokemon if they were going to make a fire-type trainer. In fact, the national dex felt like a big deal in sinnoh, so it would have been cool if the E4 did just use national dex pokemon.
It's cool to have new pokemon be discovered in the postgame, but DP seems oddly backloaded. Wish this were a complaint to have these days, though.

Sinnoh is cold climate region dumbass of course you won't find many Fire-types, Fire-types obviously like heat and hot areas, which Sinnoh is not.

Also by Gen 4, there weren't that many Fire types, Slugma/Magcargo will look out of place without a volcano (in main story), Torkoal goes with that too, Numel/Camerupt make more sense to be in a dry, arid area which Sinnoh again, is not.

Platinum added in Houndour which can work cause it's more flexible with the type of areas they would live in as well as giving you Magby and Flareon before post game.

The only other Fire-types that they could've added in without much thought/sense to be there, would be Vulpix and Growlithe.

Why does no one complain about the lack of Ice types in Hoenn when it's the same thing for Sinnoh and Fire types.

DP only have two Ice types as well. It's actually worse than Hoenn, where you can at least get three lines, one of which is Regice but still. And only Snowpoint and those areas are actually "cold", the rest is just normal grassy routes, caves, and marshes.

Before the Elite Four in DP, you get Sneasel, Weavile, Snover, and Abomasnow. That's it. Only Platinum adds Glaceon, Snorunt's line, and Swinub's line.

If you think about it, at that stage there weren't many Ice types to begin with, Swinub came in Pt and the only other Ice types that could go there was Delibird since all the other Ice types are water based pokemon and the snowy part if Sinnoh isn't watery (I mean that it does then have water access apart from the lake and entrance to Snowpoint)
