>>36621174Note that nearly all of his episodes involve Ash being an onlooker to someone else's story. Shuudo was really good at writing side characters and such. One of the reasons Legend of Galactic Heroes is so praised is because of the sheer number of minor characters you end up caring about by the end of the series.
By the same merit, that was his biggest weakness. He never had any fucking idea what to do with Ash and friends. Even in the second and third movie, where he's the focus, he doesn't get many good character moments. Shōji Yonemura was a hell of a lot better at writing Ash. He's the guy behind episodes like Snow Way Out, Air Time, the Ash and Richie episode, Evil Togepi, Meowth vs Pikachu in the Pokeball factory, and countless other filler over the last two decades. He's not nearly as consistent as Shudo was, but he's easily the best writer when it comes to making Ash likable.
