Are you retarded? Almost every other Legendary and Mythical Pokémon started that way. Why would they put a Pokémon that they have no idea if it’s actually real or not in the Pokédex until they actually discover it.

I think the concept of the pokédex is to document living pokémon, so if there's no reason to believe Nutto was still extant then Oak shouldn't put it in, also would you instantly recognise a mythical creature you saw in a book one time if you saw it in real life out of no where

I mean this seriously. The concept seems shakier since the pokemon world is filled with fantastical creature, but the premise is the same.

Almost every legendary ever are in the Dex even if people saw them 10000 years ago
Cf. Groudon, Rayquaza, Arceus, Solgaleo, Reshiram and Zekrom etc...
Some of them are only talked about in book (Solgaleo, Lunala). I'm sorry but this is just dumb. Stop justifying GF's laziness

Solgaleo's sightings were thousand of years ago, same with Reshiram/Zekrom. This is just dumb. I'm pretty sure Meltan sighting written in the book is as old.

Of anything it’s them being lazy with all the other Pokémon and not Meltan. Professor Oak only seeing it in ancient drawings and text is more in line with the anime.
