It's Hau's Dartrix.

It'll evolve and job to Ash's Incineroar in the Alola League since jobbing to Incineroar is all Decidueye does in the anime.

Its Hau's Dartrix, give up already!
However this does not kill Ash's chance for Decidueye just like Kukui having an Incineroar does not killed Ash's chance for Incineroar. Hau is more like Sanpei who had the evolved form of one of Ash's ace pokemon.

That did kill Ash's chances of getting Incineroar though. They already showed off Malicious Moonsalt, too. It's not happening.

I'd say it's less the shillmon failed, and more it doesn't gain as many traction as Greninja did. Popular as Rowlet is, I'm reluctant to say it reached the frog's level of popularity back then.

Alolan forms write themselves for a Newcomer/Echo like Simon/Ritcher
It's two characters for the price of one and Sakurai loves to be economical in character creation (dark pit, his "desserts" mentality on clones in general)

Don't ask me, I don't really follow Smash leaks.
But if I have to guess, it'd be because they look at competitive viability. I mean, Greninja is a monster, and if VGC is any indication, so is Incineroar. Hence why people just assume it's gonna make it in.
Aside from the leak, that is.

Honestly, the fact that there's only Pikachu and (maybe) Dartrix as Ash's Pokémon makes no sense. If they were going to advertise Ash's party they would also put some of his other Pokémon there, but they didn't. It's probably Hau's. Doesn't rule out Rowlet's evolution completely anyway.

It doesn't matter. You could argue the same about Zoroark and Incineroar but they didn't reach the same level of success. Even if its popularity was predetermided, something can't be popular before people know about it. So, it wasn't chosen because of its popularity.
