Myth doesn't mean it didn't happen. Frankly, any of the current staff at GF should not be trusted when it comes to retelling the development process of Gen 1 and 2. The mere fact that Iwata was revered as a god at Nintendo should be enough to tell you that he very likely helped Gen 2 in a significant way.

Yeah, by helping localize it because of his compression tools. But he didn't directly work on the game's content.
