So what's more likely at this point: actual Gen 4 remakes or just VC releases of DPPt that are compatible with pokebank?

Next VC releases are gen3 so there´ll still come gen4 rmeakes.

there will never be true Gen IV remakes

they might return to Sinnoh with a more streamlined route and narrative, but it won't be a true remake

A new region but with so many elements from Sinnoh shoehorned into it it feels like revisiting Sinno even though it's a whole new region. Like a 2-in-1 new gen+remake combo. No time and extra unit wasted making what is essentially the same game twice because making one is already hard enough.

Yeah, even just systems changes like the physical special split are improvements
I really like dexnav and hidden bases being online, as well as the delta episode
I do really like the frontier and leaders from emerald, but otherwise its just nostalgia that leads to me prefering it

That's not an improvement. It's just a change.

DexNav is worthless until all the way at the end of the game and even then it's for casuals who don't already have every Pokemon and Hidden Bases are worthless for anything except cheesing grinding.

I feel like after the success of the gen 1 and 2 VC releases, they're just gonna stop with the remakes outside of the Let's Go series. Maybe Let's Go will continue to gen 4, maybe not.
