in-universe voltorb is stretching it. they're way too big; assuming 1'08"/0.5m is average and it's the diameter, you're still dealing with sphere that has diameter of 10 inches/25cm. that's way larger than most people's hands. they would have to be way smaller to mimic poke balls.
electrode is even worse, being more than twice voltorb's size.

The design works for Ditto because it was the first to incorporate it due to Ditto's whole shtick being absolute simplicity that displays that its form can become anything. This metal turd however is just a metal ditto with crap glued on it. So its just as bad as the evolution of that Chinchilla pokemon, but at least that one's an evo. This is just a mess.
