Considering the definition of a generation has been utterly ravaged by USUM and now LGPE's pissing on the corpse, the only reliable method left is to wait and see where the Bank places Meltan when it updates and gets a Switch Version to be compatible with the 2019 games.

This, it's the same shit in a ton of companies but they can't do shit except try to make their superior reconsider without getting fired because of Japan's Respect Your Elders culture.
The most recent and vocal example was that a LOT of GameFreak was against the idea of removing Wild Battles, but they had no choice but to follow through with it.

I'm not talking about sales, I'm talking about Meltan.
The same thing happened with Onix back in the old days, it was designed as the first boss before all else and that ended up giving it shitmon stats that made it worthless despite its appearance, and Steelix was barely any better because the near-exact same thing happened of wanting to give the player an intimidating opponent that's not actually that strong, more so than usual because Steel isn't a type the player will have much familiarity with beyond the few Magnemite they've fought prior to.

How the fuck would being Electric/Steel benefit Meltan in any way? There's already an electric/steel type pokemon, and all it would do is give it more weaknesses. Pure steel types are rare, meanwhile, for electric types, you have the Pikachu you're forced to hold onto for one of the games, the possibility of Jolteon in the other, the already-electric/steel Magnemite, Voltorb, and Zapdos, which is immune to Earthquake rather than being 4x weaker than it.
There is absolutely zero gameplay-based reason for it to be electric type, full stop.

Confirmed retarded
It only increases one of its existing weaknesses, in return for a couple of resistances and a new STAB. Electric type hardly interacts with the type chart at all defensively, and Electric/Steel is one of the best defensive types in the game because of how Electric compliments Steel's existing resistances. Additionally, Steel is a bad offensive type while Electric is a decent one. You're obviously not very experienced at battling, because dual-STAB mons are always more threatening offensively than monotypes with the same stats and movepool because of their inherent unpredictability. Being part-Electric would make it drastically better.
