My mother was an actually good mother. She loved us, made we had what she could provide that we needed but ultimately only stepped in when we asked for help.

Especially in my case. Unlike the idiot children I knew and was better than her at almost everything by the time I was 6.

What was she going to do to me if I stayed up all night? Tell me to do something I had no desire to do so I'd berate her for being stupid and then still not do it? Nah, she learned early on not to do that for her own mental health if nothing else.
