I didn't even play actual gen 2 as a kid and I knew that's when it was added. I also knew about the night and day system that gen 3 for some reason skimped out on.

Crobat was Koga's ace in gen II, and it was used by both Maxie and Archie on several occasions in RSE.
All these are mandatory, important fights.

I didn't play gen 2 at all or complete a gen 3 game until after gen 4 came out.

This is just because until Gen 3 there were only 2 Ghost type lines, and the one that wasn't weak to Psychic was rare as fuck.

This one is likely because early game bugs used to always be pure shit and didn't even usually get actual Bug type attacks until much later.
what really hit me though was that Ground doesn't resist Bug either, I thought Bug and Ground resisted each other like it does with Fighting, weirdly

We had Rain Dance, Sunny Day and Sandstorm, but no Hail and no weather effects outside of battles before Gen 3 though.
